The 2019 Comrades Marathon took place on Sunday 09 June 2019 in KwaZulu-Natal between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
This year was wonderfully different because The IIE's Rosebank College sponsored one of the marathon's water stops with a branded arch towering above 22 meters. The Rosebank College student council, staff members and students from both the Pietermaritzburg and Durban campuses were hands on assisting with dispatching refreshments to the runners. Runners were supported and cheered on by staff members, students, spectators, the media, bystanders and residents as they reached the halfway mark of the race which is at Inchanga Hill.
There were approximately 100 volunteers from both KZN Campuses for the day. The day started at 3am, arriving at the refreshment stand location around 5am. The entire team had set up this station within 3 hours. Ready to receive the first set of runners that passed the station at 08:20am.
Volunteers manning the tables distributed various beverages including energy drinks and water as well as snacks including potatoes, fruits and offering a massage table which came in handy for the runners as they reached the hill-top.
This was a staggering sight to behold, for this would be, in years to come, definitely a story to be told." Says Dinesh Hanuman, the RC Pietermaritzburg principal.
